How to Install Hardwood Floors

Having your hardwood floors installed by professional’s means your job will be done on time and right, so you can enjoy your floor for years to come. This is why for any flooring installation we recommend hiring professionals. Before your installation begins, our sales experts will come to your home and perform and free in-home measurement. Moisture testing is an important step before installation to make sure your subfloors can handle hardwood flooring. A damp subfloor can cause damage to your hardwood over time if not properly tested. Your subfloor is also checked to make sure it is flat, clean, dry and free of imperfections. After your new hardwood floor is installed, it is important to leave a gap between the planks and the walls to allow the hardwood to naturally expand. There should be no gaps though between the planks to ensure a seamless surface.

Different hardwood options can be installed different ways. For example, solid hardwood should be nailed or glued down to the subfloor to ensure stability. Engineered hardwood, however, comes in floating floor options which click together and do not require any adhesives.

Where Can Hardwood Be Installed?

Hardwood is beautiful and durable, but can be limited in where it can be installed. Solid hardwood should be installed in cool, dry areas of your home and on the first two levels of your home. The best places for solid hardwood include bedrooms, dining rooms, and living rooms. Engineered hardwood can be installed on all levels of your home. Since engineered hardwood comes in most of the same options as solid, you can install them in kitchens, finished basements, hallways, and even bedrooms. You should never have hardwood installed in your bathroom or laundry room since wood naturally absorbs moisture.
