Hardwood Flooring Guide
Hardwood flooring has been around for centuries and remains a perennial favorite for homeowners of all styles and backgrounds. With its timeless style and stalwart construction, it’s certainly easy to understand why hardwood flooring has remains so deeply woven into contemporary culture.
Your new hardwood flooring represents a significant investment in your home, so clearly, it’s critical to avoid any hasty decisions. It’s not a simple question of choosing the right hardwood, but one that’s truly right for your home. Our showroom is rife with choices, with appealing options running the full gamut of varying species, finishes, and compositions. Choose from tried-and-true traditions- such as oak and hickory- or lush exotics – like acacia and mahogany. There are finished hardwoods, as well as unfinished varieties (add your own personal touch.)
Solid Hardwood vs Engineered Hardwood
A timeless favorite among traditionalists, solid hardwood is exactly that: a solid plank of wood from top to bottom. Available in varying thickness, solid hardwood can be refinished over and over again, performing at its best when installed on grade or above. This type of hardwood appeals to many homeowners because of its endless possibilities.
In more recent years, engineered hardwood has steadily emerged on the flooring market, appealing to many for its moisture-resistance and increased stability. Made entirely of natural wood, but crafted in multiple layers, this sturdy flooring is safe to install in more humid environments, since it isn’t as prone to shrinkage or expansion. It also performs extremely well in areas traditionally excluded from hardwood flooring, including areas that fall below grade. Engineered hardwoods can be refinished once or twice.
Solid hardwood flooring consists of a single strip of real wood.
Engineered hardwood flooring is made from different layers of real wood.
